The NCBFAA Customs Committee learned that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hosting webinars for software vendors and separate webinars for customs brokers to announce restructuring. The notice of the broker-oriented webinars was in CSMS 18-000460. The date of the next webinar is August 8.
The separate invitation to software vendors provided more explanation about the upcoming restructuring, stating:
“Currently each vendor or service center is assigned to a client rep, and each respective vendor/service center’s client is in turn assigned to a client rep. Beginning October 1, 2018, the vendor/service center client rep will support that vendor/service center, and the Client Representative Division will require broker or importer clients to contact their vendor for initial support and/or technical questions. If the vendor/service center is unable to answer the client’s question, the vendor/service center would then contact its assigned client rep. We understand that many vendors and service centers already encourage their clients to contact them first. For those vendors who do not operate this way, we realize that some transition time may be necessary, and we are happy to work with you on a case-by-case basis.”
NCBFAA is concerned that our direct contact with vital ABI client representatives will be cut off. We have talked to CBP about this concern and look for either confirmation or clarification on the broker webinars. If after listening to one of the webinars you have comments for the Customs Committee, please contact us by emailing NCBFAA Executive Vice President Megan Montgomery.
