As reported in last week’s MMB, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is ready to implement its 1USG Notification Messaging for Imports. This will allow two-way messaging between CPSC, CBP and the trade. Under the messaging process, CPSC will receive notification from CBP of an incoming product of interest. At the same time, the trade will receive an “UNDER REVIEW” message, signifying that CPSC is reviewing the entry. CPSC emphasizes that the CPSC review will not impact the flow of goods through the border unless CPSC determines that an intensive examination is required. The implementation date is expected to take place shortly after Labor Day.

The CPSC encourages brokers to self-certify at their earliest opportunity to ensure you are ready for implementation. Instructions for self-certifying is here. More information about the CPSC’s Messaging can be found here

The NCBFAA RAC plans to hold a webinar with CPSC in August. Additional details will soon be available.
